I just don't understand some people (small rant)

A guy just emailed me to say that for the money I’m asking for my 330Ci plus X more he could just grab an M3. Ok, dude, go pick up that M3. Why would you bother to tell me that? I’ve had similar thoughts when browsing used car sites, but never actually told the guy selling the car something like that. If I was interested in the car I would just try to negociate with him. Am I wrong here?

P.S: I know the price is a little bit high, but I know how well maintained the car is and how much money I have put in it, and I’m not in a hurry to sell it.

Have a M3 for your time.

You’re in the wrong here. It doesn’t matter that it’s well-maintained or how much money you have put into it. That’s just doing your part in upkeep, not an extra. If you don’t want to sell it, then don’t.

Also, high price and attitude are good ways to get flagged on CL.

No, I’m in Spain, and actually asking €9k. That’s probably asking 1k more than the market value around here, and I could take a little bit less, but the guy was just rude.

It’s a negotiating tactic. Make you feel as if your car is equally inferior and overpriced, so you’ll sell it to them for less.

I don’t get why people criticize others for the prices they list things at. Either the person doesn’t want to sell it that badly or they are willing to wait for someone that’s willing to pay. No one is forcing you to buy from them.

My roommate is trying to sell a Suzuki Alto Works RS-R he imported and he’s asking $12k, which is about what he has in it to be honest. People keep going “But Altos are only $2k in Japan!” “You can get a GT-R in Canada for that!” Yeah, but this one is in America, legally imported, with a clear US title already.

Provably well maintained cars are worth more. Ease off. Yeah, the “I put this much into it” argument is always a fun one, but it's far from the greatest used car sin.
